Come Sail With Us!

One of the best things about the American Sail Training Association’s (ASTA) annual conference is being surrounded by people who are as passionate about sail training and sea education as you. It can be difficult to convey the excitement and satisfaction that one gets from spending the day out on the water with a group of young trainees, watching them become a team, gaining confidence and confronting their fears-all in the space of a few hours. Our annual conference is a way to share these experiences and reconnect with fellow sailors, and to remind ourselves that we are truly lucky to have found our way to the tall ships.
The Race Team has been back in the office after spending last week in Halifax, Nova Scotia for the International Sail Training and Tall Ships conference. This year’s conference was jointly organized by Sail Training International (STI) and ASTA and what an awesome experience it was for the 400 attendees. Between meeting people from as far away as New Zealand, South Africa and Australia, and attending one of the many informative sessions (info about the sessions is available here), we were able to catch up with old friends, listen to some live music (thanks Shameless!) and even managed to squeeze in a tea party.
During the opening session, Sail Training International premiered thier new promotional video which aims to encourage young people to sign up for the sail training experience. For your viewing pleasure, the video is below. Be warned though, you may be inspired to run away to the sea. In which case, feel free to contact us at the Newport office 401.846.1775, we’ll be more than happy to connect you to the ships.
This two minute promotional film was shown at the International Sail Training and Tall Ships Conference in Halifax on Friday 14 November. This film will be translated and sent out to each of the National Sail Training Organisations for use in their country.
Please feel free to link to this film and promote as widely as possible.

I am so glad to have discovered this!! I live in Kenya and I have sailed in the Indian ocean volunteer crewing on a small yacht so i have a little experience. I would love to take part in this but i am not sure i can raise enough money. Are there any volunteer opportunities or scholarship programs that i could apply to?? Or cheaper vessels?? I am 16 and am planning on joining the US NAVY this year and it has been my dream to sail on one of these historic boats. Any assistance would be hugely appreciated!
Thanks very much
