  1. I am interested in sailing my ship (30′ Pearson) “Irish Wake” from Pentwater to Chicago for this event. Where will the Tall Ships berth and is there a chance to board them in Chicago?
    Thanks,
    Capt. Russ

      Captain Russ,
Thank you for your interest in the TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE(r) Race Series in 2010. The ships will be berthed along the Navy Pier in downtown Chicago and visitors will have the chance to board them as well. More information about the event will be posted on this blog and on our website (www.sailtraining.org).

Will you have a list and contact info of those vessels that might be carrying passengers/volunteer crew on legs of this trip ? I was lucky enough to be on the Windy II for the last Great Lakes TSC and want to do it again… the experience was quite wonderful !!!

      Hi Frank,
Thank you for your interest in the 2010 TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE(r) in the Great Lakes. Yes, we will have a listing of vessels that will be available to take trainees and passengers on board. Keep checking our website (www.sailtraining.org) and this blog for updates. Also, WINDY II is no longer operating out of Navy Pier in Chicago. I believe she was sold and is somewhere in South Asia. WINDY is still operating out of Navy Pier however and is available for voyages.

  3. I am a board member of SeaPorts Great Lakes located in Charlevoix and we would welcome any and all tall ships as they make their journey from port to port while they are in the northern part of Lake Michigan. Please check out our web page at http://www.charlevoixchallenge.org and see what we are about!

    thanks,

would like to come out in the fall of ‘09 to give a talk on tall ships fleet coming to great lakes in 2010.

In past years my talk has been successful in fund-raising for committees, raising awareness of tall ships, recruiting volunteers for tall ship visits, and getting tall ships to stop-over, etc. Love coming to Michigan and revisiting Bay city, Traverse City, Alpena, Muskegon, etc.

Send me an e-mail to which I can forward details and open dates.

  6. I am a Great Lakes photographer who has followed ASTA and the Tall Ships for many years. I visited your website (www.sailtraining.org)and noted it still carries the info from 2009. When will it be updated to show the ships involved in ASTA 2010 Great Lakes Challenge? Thanks for any information you can provide.
    Best Regards,
    Linda Anderson

      Hi Linda,
The 2009 event is still going on, it started in May and won’t finish until the middle of August. We will start to put more information about the ships that are participating in 2010 as the event gets closer. Right now, we are still finalizing ports. More information will be available on our website and this blog. Check back often!

The ships will be in Duluth next summer for the TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE(R) Race Series in the Great Lakes. The ships will be open to tour during that event.
