From the Picton to the Providence

Posted by Tall Ships America on July 31, 2007

This week, Matt and Heather are participating in a week long program on board the Sloop Providence with a group of local middle school kids.  Thus far, the kids have had a “behind the scenes” tour of Fort Adams, got divided into watches and had an extensive tutorial about the ship.  Today, the group will be able to apply what was learned yesterday when they take the Providence sailing out in Narragansett Bay.  For a daily update, follow this link http://sea-fever.org/.

Peter Mello was the Executive Director of ASTA for several years and is now involved with the Providence Maritime Heritage Foundation www.sloopprovidenceonline.org

Next week, Matt and Heather will blog about thier experience aboard the Providence, complete with video and photos.  Until then, Fair Winds!

  1. Thanks Erin.

Today was one of those days that reminds you why you do what you do and reinforces your belief in the power sail training has to transform young lives.

ASTA Interns Heather and Matt are a BIG help! Thanks for sharing them with the Sloop!
