Tall Ships Welcomed to the Canary Islands

All of the ships have arrived in the second port of the TALL SHIPS®ATLANTIC CHALLENGE, Tenerife, Canary Islands, for the four day festival. Throngs of visitors streamed down to the waterfront to welcome the vessels to the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Today was the day for resupply as the ships use the Canary Islands stop to reprovision thier vessels for the upcoming four week Atlantic crossing which starts on Sunday, May 17. This is the second race in the series with eleven vessels expected to take part. The line up includes, Belle Poule (FRA), Etoile (FRA), Jolie Brise (UK), Kruzenshtern (RUS), Mircea (ROM), Peter von Danzig (GER), Rona II (UK), Spirit of Bermuda (BER), Tecla (NETH), Urania (NETH), and Xsaar (BEL). Starting on Sunday, the ships will make the 2,600nm transit to Hamilton, Bermuda to arrive in time for the 400th anniversary celebration of the colonization of the island nation.
Two new vessels have joined the fleet in Tenerife, the Argentinian naval vessel Libertad and the Romanian naval vessel Mircea. These two Class A vessels are an impressive sight to behold down at the waterfront.
