Bid on an adventure history sail aboard the schooner Californian

Posted by Tall Ships America on January 26, 2011

Embark on a special journey and spend the afternoon sailing towards the Pacific Ocean and back on the Official State Tall ShipCalifornian.

This Adventure Package for two people includes a four-hour adventure history sail aboard the schooner Californian and admission to the museum and its fleet of historic ships. The Californian is a replica of a Gold Rush era revenue cutter and the Official Tall Ship of the State of California. Join the crew in sailing a traditionally rigged tall ship.

Passengers will be invited to haul a line, man the helm and end their day with a cannon salute. Watch the crew as they scamper up and down the rigging to set and furl the sails. Listen as the Californian‘s crew relate the history of sailing and exploration in San Diego, tales of whaling and sea otter trade, local sea battles, the art of ship’s gunnery, life at sea and more.

Bring your own bag lunch! – no coolers, no alcohol, no glass containers permitted. We have coolers aboard if you need refrigeration.  We do have beverages and light snacks available for purchase onboard.

More information about Californian is available on the San Diego Maritime Museum’s website, www.sdmaritime.org

It is important that you arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled boarding to allow time for parking, and check-in.

To bid on a Tall Ships® Adventure excursion or voyage, CLICK HERE . Gifts range from a day trip to three-week voyages. To bid, select the desired trip and enter a bid amount or purchase the experience at full price.

The “Tall Ships® Adventure” auction will raise money for expansion of national sail training programs overseen by the American Sail Training Association (ASTA). Funds will also support ASTA’s popular TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® series of events, which bring world-class traditional sailing vessels to ports across the country for public tours and trips.
