2012 TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE(r) Internship Opportunity

Posted by Tall Ships America on March 23, 2012

TALL SHIPS AMERICA is seeking summer interns who are interested in working in a unique nonprofit environment. Interns support the staff in various components of the TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® Race Series. The Race Team works with the vessels, crews, trainees, port organizers, US Coast Guard, and others to execute a successful series of races and port festivals for traditional sailing ships.

Responsibilities include:
• assisting with directory distribution program, maintaining online social networks (blogging, videos, photos), marketing/media tracking, promotion of Tall Ships America’s mission and programs, acting as liaison between TALL SHIPS AMERICA, ports and ships.

This summer, interns travel with the Race Team to the ports of Newport and Halifax. Interns will join TALL SHIPS AMERICA in Newport, RI on July 5, 2012 and will be responsible for their own travel from Halifax at the end of the series on July 23rd.We hope to offer all the interns an opportunity to sail as part of the crew on a tall ship during the race leg to Halifax.

Successful candidates will be organized thinkers, motivated workers, enthusiastic learners, confident communicators and mature young adults. Sailing or sail training experience is helpful but not necessary. Aspiring photographers and writers are welcome.

TALL SHIPS AMERICA offers the following incentives:
• travel expenses during the event and offers a food allowance when traveling in support of the   TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® 2012 or other TALL SHIPS AMERICA events.
• Stipend to each intern – $500 for the three week program.

NOTE:  Interns are responsible for finding their own way to meet the Race Team in Newport and home from Halifax at the end of the program.

If you are interested in being an intern, and/or to request an application, please apply via email to Erin Short at:  erin@tallshipsamerica.org.   Please include a cover letter, resume and references. Additionally, please submit a brief writing sample that focuses on what value you would bring to TALL SHIPS AMERICA and what you would like to gain from the experience.

For consideration, applications must be received by April 19, 2012.  Incomplete applications will not be considered. Final decision will be announced by April 25th.
