Message in a bottle

Bobbing it’s way across the ocean, filled with the hopes and dreams of whoever tossed it into the ocean, the message in a bottle is a throwback (pun intended) to a less connected world. Toss the bottle in the ocean and wait patiently for an answer which may or may arrive. In the case of this NPR Talk of the Nation story, sometimes you have to wait 98 years. This was brought to my attention by our Executive Director who happened to be listening to NPR on his way home from work last night. He was pleasantly surprised when a familiar name was announced and Captain Sean Bercaw came on the radio to talk about his own drift bottle project (he’s launched more than 250 bottles). Here is the transcript of the interview and you can listen to it too.
Imagine finding a message in a bottle, what a thrill that must be. All of a sudden your imagination must go into overdrive (TREASURE MAP!!), your hands shake as you struggle to uncork the bottle, and the soggy paper is carefully unrolled…What does it say? Who is it from?
And because it is a rainy day here in Newport, here is The Police singing Message in a Bottle to liven up our morning –
