Here are some photos I took from the after deck of the Steamship William G. Mather Museum during the Huntington Cleveland Harborfest Parade of Sail on July 13, 2006. The weather was pretty threatening for a while but in the end the Parade came off without a hitch. Even though I do this for a living, I never tire of experiencing a Parade of Sail. Jonathan, Thad and I did TV interviews and ASTA Intern Meredith got to sail on the US Brig Niagara. Unfortunately, Interns Mary and Alexandra had travel problems and missed their first Parade; no worries, there will plenty more ahead in the TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE!

Check out the frontpage of today’s Cleveland Plain Dealer for a great photo!

I was wondering when the ships will be in Cleveland Ohio? I was there to see them in 2006 and I can’t wait to see them again.

    Thanks for the help!!

Just to clarify, Harborfest at Voinovich Park is a DIFFERENT festival than the Tall Ships (registered trademark) Festival at the Port of Cleveland, behind the Browns Stadium.

The Tall Ships Festival begins with the Parade of Sail on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 and runs through Sunday, July 11. For more information on the TALL SHIPS FESTIVAL – visit http://www.clevelandtallships.com.

I wouldn’t want anyone interested in seeing and touring the Tall Ships to be disappointed if they went to HarborFest by mistake.

Where is the best place to view the parade of the tall ships, from the deck of the william Mather or Voinovich park?
Four (adults, no kids) of us are coming to see the parade of the tall ships. I want to see them come over the horizon if possible. It says the parade starts at 4:00 and I plan to be settled by 3:00. Is that enough time? I was told they gather at the Curb and then come in.
If we get there that early we will want some refreshments…alcohol and non and munchies. Can we bring them to the park?

      Hi Babs,
The Harborfest at Voinavich Park is not where the ships will be berthing and not part of the Cleveland tall ships festival. I do not know what is allowed in Voinavich Park or what facilities will be there since that is not our event. However, you should be able to have a good view of the ships from either the park or the deck of the Mather. The ships will be berthed at the Port of Cleveland. I think getting there an hour before is plenty of time. Please be aware that these times are subject to change due to weather.
