#979 Getting your sea legs
Posted by Tall Ships America on July 5, 2011
If you are not used to it, those first few hours (or days) on a ship can really be difficult. It’s like you have to relearn how to do most everything, from walking to sleeping to eating and using the bathroom, as you struggle to adjust to the constant motion of the ship. You stagger all over the deck, running into things and alternately grabbing on for dear life as you enviously watch the other sailors blithely walk around, sipping their coffee and eating soup with not a drop spilled or a misstep. One watch, you walk up onto deck with hardly a wobble, nary a falter. Bring on the pitching deck and the rough seas, because you just got your awesome sea legs.
Have an idea or a story you want to share? Email it to me at erin@sailtraining.org and I’ll add it to the blog with props to you.
